Are you a Methodist church, an independent church, or what?
When asked what distinguishes a Methodist, John Wesley (the founder of the Methodist movement) replied that the marks are a desire to flee the wrath to come, to serve the Lord with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. While Foundry Methodist Church is not affiliated with a particular Methodist denomination, we do share with them a basic understanding of how to live the faith. We recognize John Wesley as our foundational theologian. We emphasize the Scripture as the source of faith and practice. We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us and to empower us for Christian service. We have chosen to be independent of any denomination because we believe that local congregations ought to make their own decisions about how to worship, who their pastors will be, and where they will devote their monies. We believe that the local congregation is the rightful owner of its property, not a larger church body. In other words, our differences with our sister Methodist denominations come down to policy and governance.
What does your symbol mean?
| Foundry Methodist Church's symbol represents our commitment to being the church Christ described. The CROSS represents our belief in Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life, the only way to the Father. We believe that Christ's death upon the cross paid the redemptive price for our salvation, and made possible our reconciliation with God.
The HEART and FLAME illustrate the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Through Him we are empowered to live Christian lives. By Him we can come increasingly to understand the Word and Will of God. That the flame is within the heart represents our deepest goal: TO BECOME LIKE CHRIST. The PITCHER, BASIN and TOWEL are symbols of servanthood. Members of Foundry Methodist Church are committed to serving God, one another, and our neighbor. |
What are your worship services like?
Regular Sunday services start at 10:00 a.m. Our services are traditional and generally last an hour. Fellowship time (complete with refreshments) follows morning worship. We have communion on the first Sunday of each month. There is no dress code. We invite you to join us for worship sometime!
I have young children. What do you have for them to do during services?
Our nursery is staffed during worship services and is open to children ages 4 and under. Elementary-aged children are encouraged to participate in regular worship services. They can pick up an activity bag immediately after the children's story. These bags include a variety of items (snack, puzzles, crayons, coloring pages) and should be returned to the front of the sanctuary after services are over.
Do you have midweek services or just on Sunday?
Foundry Methodist Church holds worship services on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and praise and worship services on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. There are times throughout the year when special services are held as well. Wednesday evening services during the Lenten season lead up to nightly worship services during Holy Week. Through these special services, Foundry Methodist Church takes the opportunity to carefully and prayerfully move through the Greatest Story Ever Told. In addition, Foundry holds a meaningful candlelight Christmas Eve service each Christmas Eve at 11:00 p.m. Please check the church calendar for the latest updates on services and times.
